6 Lessons over 7 Weeks - NO CLASS OCTOBER 5TH

Join us at The Hound Lounge for a lively and interactive dog training program focusing on the fundamentals of obedience.

Welcome to our Basic Obedience Essentials Course! In this program, we focus on teaching both you and your dog the essential skills for effective communication and a strong partnership. Our goal is to build a solid foundation of obedience through various training techniques and fundamental commands. Here’s a brief overview of what you can expect over the next 6 weeks:

  1. Communication: Effective communication is key to a successful training relationship. We’ll teach you how to clearly and consistently convey your expectations to your dog using verbal cues, body language, and non-verbal signals. Understanding and establishing clear communication helps your dog respond appropriately and strengthens your bond.
  2. Leash Handling: Proper leash handling is crucial for control and safety during training sessions. We’ll cover techniques for holding and using the leash to guide and direct your dog. You’ll learn how to maintain a loose leash, correct pulling, and use leash cues to reinforce desired behaviors.
  3. Luring: Luring is a technique where we use a treat or toy to guide your dog into the desired position or behavior. This method helps dogs understand what’s expected by physically guiding them with the lure. We’ll practice luring for basic commands such as “sit,” “down,” and “come.”
  4. Shaping: Shaping involves breaking down complex behaviors into smaller, manageable steps and rewarding incremental progress. We’ll teach you how to use shaping to gradually teach new commands or tricks, reinforcing each step towards the final behavior. This method encourages learning through positive reinforcement and helps build confidence.
  5. Capturing Behaviors: Capturing involves rewarding your dog for naturally occurring behaviors that you want to encourage. We’ll show you how to recognize and reinforce these spontaneous actions, which helps in teaching commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “lie down.” Capturing is a powerful way to encourage and reward desirable behaviors.
  6. Basic Commands: We’ll focus on teaching foundational commands that are essential for good behavior and communication. Commands such as “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “down,” and “heel” are the building blocks of obedience. We’ll provide clear instructions and practice sessions to ensure you and your dog master these commands effectively.

Throughout the course, we emphasize our Positive First training approach, patience, and consistency. Our aim is to create a positive and enjoyable learning environment where you and your dog can thrive together. We look forward to working with you and helping you build a strong, obedient partnership with your canine companion!
